Top Gun" Location Tour｜San Diego Holy Land Pilgrimage (from Los Angeles)

On the very special day marking exactly 40 years since the original release of Top Gun, I joined the filming location tour I had always dreamed of. Just being able to visit those places on such a memorable day was moving in itself, but thanks to Mr. Imai, the experience became even richer and more unforgettable than I had imagined. Mr. Imai was very polite, friendly, and easy to talk to, and he supported us with many things locally, including negotiations. He flexibly suggested places on the spot, saying things like, “Would you like to go here as well?” He also looked for an Apple Store when my companion had an iPhone issue, and kindly responded to our sudden request to look for limited-edition items at a movie theater. Not only did he share many behind-the-scenes stories and filming episodes from Top Gun, but he also prepared scene photos and explained everything very carefully. In addition, he told us about filming locations from other movies, stories related to Western music, and interesting episodes about places we passed by in the car. The whole tour was exciting from beginning to end. It was several times more in-depth than I had imagined. Even though I cannot speak English at all, Mr. Imai supported us thoroughly, so I was able to enjoy the tour 100% without any worries. I would highly recommend this tour not only to Top Gun fans, but also to anyone who wants to visit filming locations or places connected to movies and artists. Even after returning to Japan, he continued to share various information with us, and I am still enjoying the afterglow of Top Gun. Thank you so much for such a wonderful time! Next time, I would love to join again with my movie-loving friends. ✨

Even on a one-day trip from LA, the travel was smooth, and I was able to fully enjoy the “Top Gun vibe” in San Diego. The coastal drive and the views from Point Loma were incredible—just being on the road made me feel like I’d stepped right into the world of the film. The explanations at each location were easy to understand, and my excitement shot up at the bar and at Kansas City BBQ. Next time, I’d love to join a tour for filming locations from a different movie.
